Can I use graphics in Canva for commercial use?
The quick answer is yes! But it is nuanced and I cover it in depth inside the course at the link below.
Make sure to read the fine print within anything you purchase through a 3rd party site. Find this lesson in your course dashboard here.
Best Practices:
- Give credit where credit is due. Even if attribution is not required, it's best to credit the creator or artist in your journal :)
- Make sure you save any licenses at the time of your use in writing. Take screenshots of terms of use, add them to a folder with the date, etc. In the rare event that a claim is made, you will have documentation to protect yourself.
- Do not use google images to find graphics. It is best to purchase media that contains a specific license than to risk copyright infringement. It's also nearly impossible to track down original artists if you're using materials that are freely roaming around the web.
- Just because an image is on a reputable site like Unsplash does not guarantee its use. There have been instances in the past where creators have been sued for using images. It's best to contact the artist or photographer directly and verify that they did in fact, submit their work to be used through a 3rd party site.
This is not meant to scare you or prevent you from using outside media, however, it is important to understand the importance of copyright, terms of use, and doing what you can to ensure you are abiding by all regulations.
